My Viewpoint of Art Sketches

My Viewpoint of Art Sketches

To me, sketches could display different aspects of drawing (light/shades, perspective, proportion, detail, space, many things) , or it could be just sketch.

But at this moment, sketching is really no more than just sketching to me!

It is my understanding that sketching is more than just holding a pencil or charcoal pencil ,

and trying scrutinize objects and making tedious revisions on the drawing pad.

I can sketch with my finger without using a pen;

all I need is a pile of sand or soil….

Even just a piece of open space or wall,

I can still pick up a few stones and enjoy the joy of drawing.

We all did that when we were kids, didn’t we?

Certainly! This drawing skill is not found or invented by me,

it existed long time ago. And I have to admit it,

people did great jobs on drawing in the past.

They did much better works than I do

Perhaps, people may ask the question frankly:

Are oil painting and water color painting considered sketches?

If my answer is yes, the painting master may jump out and point to my nose:

Wrong!..... Instead of outlining the objects with sketch,
I use color stacking and changes directly to the painting,

there is no direct connection with your so called: sketch.

But if my answer is no, you will also hear the opposite arguments!

Actually, if you read my writing word by word in the previous paragraph about the finger and rock which can be used to make a sketch,

it may appear to be absured, but it is in fact a very feasible "Artistic form"

Do you still think that using colors to do painting is not sketch?

Many of the decorative arts are also able to master a pile of scrapped cars, cable, steel ring using Stack, dismantling, together and cutting skill to bring out the image in their mind.
You would not think that these art masters just do some metal work, painting, welding, gold plate automobile technology, would you?

If they are willing to say the truth; or invite experts to study their current activities;

It can be absolutely confirmed that:

In fact, ... ... ... they are drawing.......... but they are also sketching!

They just utilize familiar materials and manipulate them with skilled operation!

OK! Let’s talk about the Sand Paintingthat we can frequently watch on the internet!

With piles of sand on stained glass,

using graceful strokes with your hands and fingers,

transform the image into art.

How can you deny the skills of sketching exibited in this sand drawing ,

with your natural sense of art?

(Ps: in my opinion, that is {sketching with sand})

Even by now, I believe there will be some rigid people trying to tell me
You are wrong! Sketch, what refers to is the single color! Only solid colored painting is the sketch!

What if…..
The sand artist prepared multiple colors of fine sand to create a picture, has the technique been used differently? … Should the colored sand painting no longer be named "Sand Art" ?

Oh! ….I know! ......That must be called [color sand picture]!

From the above, the truth is: the name of “Sand Art” is decided by artist not by itself!

That sketch? I think it should have the same way to define it!

In summary, I would like to conclude:

What does sketch mean to me?
What is my definition of sketch:

Sketch to me, is an impulsive spirit towards drawing.

The formal way of expression is an enthusiastic Love for art !
