     Old folk lanterns, which are on the decline, have been the favorites of Wu Duen-How since he was young. He has been making lanterns with traditional methods for sixty years, since he learned to make them at the age of fifteen. Traditional skills are gradually lost because of the change of social form and the death of the old artisans. Mr. Wu, promoted by his sense of responsibility; regards the traditional as his own duty. He has been invited for more than ten years by municipal and county Social Education Hall, Center of Culture, folk activities all over the island, and so on, to teach the teachers of high schools, middle schools, and primary schools to make lanterns. He works very hard to train the inheritors of the invisible culture property. His works are so delicate and exquisite that he is called "the most skillful painter of folk lanterns." He is not only famous all over the world but also is often reported about through every medium; he has been interviewed by American and Japanese television reporters.
      Additionally Japanese, American, French, Dutch, German, and Korean curio artists and antiquarians often buy his works because of his fame. Mr. Wu because of his skill of painting folk lanterns, is often invited by government social education institutions to demonstrate in public and make films for distribution both inside and outside the country. Indeed, he has devoted his whole life to developing this traditional folk skill.
