周于棟, 專業藝文創作與人文思想工作. 1950年生於彰化,幼時愛塗鴨愛演布袋戲‧

 

童年至青少年,經常感受著生活中的抑鬱心情‧大學學習視覺藝術‧

 

大三之後,陷入了為時七年的生命枯瘠黑暗期‧因為讀了"紅樓夢"、"道德經",才在心身沈痼中激起一點曙光‧之後積極修習靜坐、太極,深受古道家影響,於生活有所印證,才改變了整個生命素質,走向豁達之路‧

 

熱衷藝術創作,對人文歷史哲學關注,並涉及社會環境變遷與政治經濟演化的多層觀察‧內功鍛煉與創作內涵相互反饋,是周于棟生命根盤中的關鍵糾結‧體驗"出離形局礙,覺受環中妙"的實境,從而論述"安凝入緩急,隨行應牽扯; 迎送情物八方虛,來去形局無時妙’, 溶入性的生命觀與創作理念‧

 

1979年之後,開了三十幾次個人藝術展‧美術作品有水墨、書法、水印版畫、油畫、拼貼、綜合媒材,裝置‧辦過"阿棟私塾"與"自在人文社"意在使人尋回直觀美感本能,以及開發活潑的接收與傳達能量,共同探索心靈自由‧出版了畫冊、散文、漫畫、彩墨連環圖畫共十部‧

 

以藝術價值言,周于棟不依循西方現代藝術價值潮流,不依循東方傳統藝術價值,只開拓個人獨特風貌. 他因內在力量的茁壯靈感不絕, 而開發內在價值. 結合對古老思想的現代印證,以牽扯流轉的宇宙本質為基石,創造了展現不定向交錯,可聚可散的藝術生命‧

 

三十年來除一意創作藝文,也勤練文人內家功夫, 教內家技擊,常約同好推手散手較技. 喜歡與有緣友人喝茶聊天,談藝術、功夫、心靈和人的深處世界,讓生活多添情趣色彩‧

 

在長期藝術創作與功夫修習的互相激盪中,他也開創了隨內在能量運動的"無相太極拳",以及可以隨任何音樂舞動的"無相太極舞"‧

 

周于棟主張人生最寶貴的價值,莫過於性靈自由‧只有性靈自由,才可消除煩惱恐懼,才能有永續的內發快樂,才能增加人與人,圍體與團體之間的互諒和諧‧誰都可以因為決心力與積極實行力而獲得性靈自由‧然而其過程是要自然的、豐富的、有趣的‧

 他提倡藝術欣賞,是人與人之間心靈的溝通橋樑﹔生活欣賞,是人與宇宙生命間的溝通橋樑﹔身心潛能的開發,是在不平衡的能量變化中創造和諧的能量‧

 

Brief of Earthstone Chu

 

Earthstone Chu, profession in creation of arts and humanity thinking.

 

Chu was born in 1950. He liked to draw and play puppets when he was a young child.

 

In his childhood and juvenile period, he always felt the depressed mood in daily life. He studied fine art in university.

 

It was seven years he fell into a withered and dark life, after third year uni. The subtle light then just rose from his oppression of the mind and body, since he read the book “The Red Chamber” and “Tao Te Ching”. Having been influenced by Tao thinking, he passionately practiced meditation and Tai Chi. The quality of his life was changed by confirming Tao theory in daily life with a road of open mind.

 

Enthusiastically devoting to art creation, he has paid attention as well to humanity, history and philosophy. The transition of society, environment, politic and economy is under his concern too. Feeding back each other between Nei Kung exercise and art creation is the key knot of Chu’s life foundation. Chu experienced the reality of “setting free from the obstacle of appearances, feeling the subtle of the core of life.” Then he expounds the dissolving concepts of life and creation with ”stably concentrating into the slow and fast, treating the lingering by following; greet and see off for everything by empty mind, come and go in forms with the wonderful any time.”

 

Since 1979, he had held over 30 solo exhibitions, including ink and color in rice paper, oil painting, collage, mixed media and installation; run “Ah Dong School” and “Zi Zai Humanity Society”, with the aim that lets people find back the instinct of intuition aesthetic feeling and develop active energy of acceptance and expression, to explore the freedom of the mind together; published 10 books, including art books, essays, cartoons and comics.

 

In aspect of art, he got continuous inspiration for creation because the boosting of inner power. Neither following the tide of value judgment in modern art from the West, nor the tide of value judgment in traditional art from East, Chu chose to dig into life by following the inner value from self developing, and created the life of art with expressing lingering without directions, and the mixture of gathering and dispersing based on the essence of universe—“involving and wandering”.

 

Chu is a professional visual artist for 30 years; a woodman, who chops wood for romantic log fire for living in the mountain forest; an intellectual kung fu expert, who is often exchange skill with friends by playing push hands. He likes cheating with friends, when drink tea, on the topic of art, kung fu, the mind and the deep world of human being. It is this adds more color in daily life.

 

With long term mutual stimulating between art creation and kung fu disciplining, he found “Formless Tai Chi”, which is developed by the movement of inner energy, and “Formless Tai Chi Dance” which can be acted with any sort of music.

 

Chu argues that nothing more important and valuable than freedom of the mind in our life. Freedom of the mind is the only thing helps one to extinguish worries and fear, and possess eternal inner happiness, as well as increases more shared understanding and harmony between individual and group. Everyone can gain freedom of the mind by having solid decision and passionate practicing, but it should be natural, rich and interesting in the processing.

 

He advocates that appreciation of art is a bridge for communication of the mind between people; that appreciation of life is the same between human and life of universe; that the development of potential competence is the energy for create harmony in the changing of unbalance energy.

在現代生活中, 圖像片段快速連續單向發生變化. 然而人的心意情感卻被前後各方因素拉扯.日復一日有如沒有方向重心感, 卻又奔跑在難以停步的下坡. 無法靜心沉澱, 實行整體觀照.

藝術形態, 不論水墨、書法、油畫、拼貼、立體、裝置, 都自由揮舞著牽扯流轉的耐人尋味能量, 可立即使觀者因感應無約束的心靈情狀而舒懷, 並超然觀照自身所處之牽扯現象. 以此產生牽扯的收攏, 塵染之沈澱效應. 進而經驗不可言喻的深闊生命開展機能.

在今日, 我們很需要一個高尚的價值觀, 與實質可感應的訊息, 來引發歸返璞真自然的實踐. 的藝術創作,正是這樣人類需求下的代表產物.
